Monitoring and Understanding Diabetes

Aimed at all adult social care providers

Outline

For Health and Social Care staff who have been employed in a care setting in a senior post for a year or more and who have NVQ2 in Care or equivalent qualification

Description

The course will cover:

  • Understanding diabetes
  • Treatments and importance of achieving/maintaining good glycaemic control
  • Understanding food in relation to diabetes
  • Signs, symptoms and treatment for hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
  • Diabetes related complications and prevention including foot care
  • Recognizing Abnormalities
  • The role of the carer
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Health and Safety aspects

DELEGATES WILL BE ASSESSED ON THE DAY BY BOTH WRITTEN AND PRACTICAL METHODS FOLLOWED BY SUPPORT VISIT AND FINAL COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT IN THE WORK PLACE.
